Things To Do To Keep Water From Entering Your Basement

As a homeowner, you will need to take it upon yourself to be proactive to ensure that your basement does not end up with a lot of water problems. One of the best things to do is to start by reviewing the following tips.

Have A French Drain Installed Outside

You can do this yourself or you can hire a professional contractor, someone like Stan Young Drainage, do it for you. By adding a French drain around the exterior of your foundation, any water that falls right against your home or that rolls towards it from a hillside will be quickly diverted away from the house. While this may not resolve the entire water problem, if you are currently having one, it is certainly a good start and it should do a lot in keeping the majority of the water out.

Apply A Quality Foundation Sealant

You can purchase a quality foundation sealant on both the interior side of the basement walls and the exterior side as well. In order to apply the sealant to the exterior side of the wall, you will have to dig down along the side of the foundation wall. Make sure that the sealant covers the entire length and width of the wall. It is also very important to make sure that you are filling in all of the little cracks and holes that you find within the foundation wall as you apply the sealant. You will want to make sure that the foundation sealant is fully dry before you replace the soil. This will ensure that it will work in the best manner possible.

Install A Sump Pump

If there is going to be a small amount of water that will find is way into your home, such as during a small flooding incident, you might want to consider the installation of a sump pump. This is system that is designed to pump water from the basement to the outside without any trouble on your part. It is set up to run automatically so you will not have to worry if you are going to be away from home during the time there is water that needs to be removed.

Once you have better protected your basement from  water problems, you will be able to rest easier at night knowing that the entire structure of your home and the health of you and your loved ones is better protected.
